Position: Associate Equity Research Analyst

Location: Louisville, KY

Status: Full-time

Reports To: Director of Research

Job Description: Provides stock analysis across many industries under RRAM’s Absolute Value® investing philosophy.  Works with all RRAM Investment Business Groups (IBGs) in evaluating current and prospective portfolio holdings to identify relevant risk and reward investment potential.  Applies the research and modeling techniques to make effect investment decisions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Securities Research

  • Execute, evaluate and evolve the Absolute Value® research process and standards
  • Author 2-pagers
  • Hone AVs and conviction with PMs

Research Fund

  • Performance – reflect the best investment opportunities within RRAM Research
  • Process – serve as a model example of process design
  • Training – develop the next generation of investment leadership

Additional

  • Formulates and maintains forward looking investment recommendations (buy/sell/hold) and develops strategy for securities held in the portfolio
  • Initiates timely discussions with PMs on current or potential holdings
  • Maintains a watch list
  • Participates in investment team meetings and process discussions

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Major in finance, economics, accounting, or related field strongly preferred
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and/or progress towards Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred
  • Must have 2+ years of demonstrated experience in business analysis
  • Must be ready to build a career in Louisville, KY
  • Proficient with MS Office applications/exceptional Excel skills
  • Must have a demonstrated affinity for investing
  • Must exhibit a strong passion for the industry
  • Must be committed to RRAM’s organizational beliefs
  • Understanding of valuation, accounting, and economic principles across many industries
  • Understanding of the strengths, weaknesses, and nuances of different valuation and investing methodologies in the context of RRAM’s Absolute Value® investing approach
  • Fundamental knowledge of RRAM’s IBG investment strategies and individual department functions
  • Fundamental knowledge of SEC company filing structures as related to public equity investing
  • Fundamental knowledge of the Asset Management industry, including client types, communication aspects, customer service, and reporting standards.
  • Passion and commitment for Absolute Value® investing
  • Aptitude for translating valuation subject matter into pragmatic investment discussions
  • Shows the ability to take a contrarian view
  • Devoted to reading financial statements, industry reports, policy papers, and trade journals
  • Ability to complete core modeling and analysis techniques of both corporate and securities finance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Operates with a sense of urgency
  • Professionally mature and intellectually honest
